Jurriaan Dekker

Double bass player Jurriaan Dekker studied at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague with Hein van deGeyn, Frans van der Hoeven and many others. In 2008 he got his 'Master of Music' degree. As a player he's a busy one, playing in bands such as The New Quartet/Joris Posthumus Quartet (nu-bop), Tuhú (Latin-American folkloristic music), Myriam Gaasbeek (singer-songwriter) and many more. He has als been touring with dance company Introdans (See the Music) and musical company V&V Entertainment (Grease, Fame & Hairspray). Besides playing, Jurriaan as very active off stage. From 2005 to 2007 he produced his own jazz evening called 'The New Quartet meets...' together with Muzieklab Brabant, which was held in popcentre 013. He's also an educator at the Fontys Conservatory in Tilburg and music school H19 in Oosterhout. In 2006 Jurriaan won the Jacques de Leeuw Young Top Talent Award.
During the Daniel Johnston BEAM Me Up! tour Jurriaan replaced his former teacher Eric van der Westen, and will be the backbone of the BEAM orchestra together with Yonga. As he loves playing live, he's thrilled to play on these great stages around Europe and hopes to share some great music!!
